Interiors manufacturer saves 43.8 tonnes of CO2 per year with LED lighting tech
Midlands-based The Alan Nuttall Partnership have netted more than £14,000 in savings per year in energy cost reductions – thanks to a turn-key project from SMARTech energy to replace their existing SON, HiD and fluorescent tube lighting with LED.
The Foodservice Solutions division of The Alan Nuttall Partnership specialises in the design, production and installation of innovative heated display equipment and modular counters. Their clients are in the retail, foodservice, hospitality and leisure sectors.
An environmentally conscious company, The Alan Nuttall Partnership were keen to explore options to reduce carbon emissions, save on energy costs and improve the workplace environment across their sites. A key-culprit of energy waste was the outdated SON and HiD lighting. The inefficiency of the existing lamps was not only driving up energy use and CO2 emissions, but high maintenance costs – compared to the latest LED lighting also played a factor in the upgrade.
HOW WE HELPED
SMARTech energy are specialists in energy management and reduction technologies and were best placed to provide The Alan Nuttall Partnership with a turn-key design and installation LED lighting solution – including survey, audit, design and specification to meet their exacting requirements.
Through the use of 3D lighting design simulation, SMARTech energy’s consultancy team recommended the installation of the following lights to be installed throughout the manufacturing site:
- SMART LED Skybays 100-watt (5000k) (+Integral motion sensor)
- SMART Slimline battens
- SMART LED Tri-proof fittings 40-watt (+integral motion sensor)
- SMART LED Tri-pr oof fittings 60-watt (+integral motion sensor)
SMARTech energy installed a total of 208 LED replacement lamps throughout the workshop and main warehouse areas. The design specifications ensure a good light quality at the desired brightness of between 300-399 lux throughout the site and meet with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) recommendations.
With energy efficiency one of the key drivers in an LED lighting conversion for manufacturers, a key design feature for the Alan Nuttall project was to include smart lighting controls. The design-in of motion sensors significantly amplifies the energy savings of an LED conversion. The combination of LED’s instant-on, together with the ability to automatically control the lights, means they’re only on when absolutely needed. This reduces energy consumption and extends the life and performance of the fixtures.
- Anticipated 87.41% saving in electricity consumption, equating to more than £14,000p/a in electrical and maintenance costs when compared with previously installed fittings.
